The Story

Robert Camardello grew up in a rural hamlet in the Adirondack mountains and loved spending time outdoors. At age 19, he moved to Rochester, NY, seeking employment and higher education. It was there he would meet designer Lynn Allinger and woodworker Gary Stam. They owned and operated Exotic Wood Designs Inc and Craft Company No. 6, a woodworking shop and art gallery. Robert worked as an apprentice under Gary, a former RIT woodworking professor and the son of a woodworker. From 1982-1986, Robert created exotic wood sculpture and pursued college studies.

Robert then spent the next 38-years in sales and marketing. In May of 2024, he retired to his home near Lake George, NY. He launched his woodworking business, now known as "Rob's Gnarly Grain," focusing on wood sculptures, particularly one-of-a-kind vases for dried weeds and flowers.

Every piece showcases the natural beauty of the wood through elegant design and expert craftsmanship.  He creates both modern designs and variations on classic vase shapes suitable for homes and galleries. He is a regularly featured artist at the Lapham Gallery in Glens Falls, NY.
